This is a F/T, benefited entry level position in the Parks & Recreation Department with an emphasis on custodial and facilities maintenance duties. Candidate hired will perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks assisting in the care, maintenance and repair of park facilities, grounds & equipment.  Work schedule required for this position is Wednesday through Sunday schedule (ALL weekends), some holidays and evening hours. 


Depending upon assignment, may drive utility trucks, dump trucks, and/or other vehicles; may operate a backhoe.

May operate a variety of power tools such as floor scrubbers, pressure washers, tile saws, carpentry tools, and other types of power tools.

Use and operate flagging equipment to control traffic in vicinity of work crews.

Use and properly care for a variety of specialized hand tools, vehicles, and equipment; deliver parts, materials, tools, and equipment; perform basic repairs as needed.

Provide technical assistance and participate in the training of seasonal staff; assist in the implementation of department/division goals and objectives; participate in safety training programs and other related functions.

Operate a cell phone and a computer for routine communications.

Keep clear and accurate records related to the care and maintenance of parks facilities, equipment or procedures.

Perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of general parks and recreation facilities.

Perform periodic and routine maintenance and safety checks for vehicles, maintenance equipment and facilities.

Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements for the use of power tools and equipment and hazardous materials.

May serve as a lead worker for park maintenance workers and seasonal workers.


Make suggestions and recommendations to supervisor concerning ways of improving maintenance and reducing costs.

Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work areas. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

Work effectively with other employees and the general public.

Perform other routine park maintenance duties as may be assigned.




Education: Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

Experience:   A minimum of three (3) years experience in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment, or graduation from a technical school in a related field.

Substitution: Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may substitute for the above requirements.

Desirable Qualifications: Completion of basic first aid and CPR training; Carpentry experience; Experience with intuitional custodial practices; Plumbing experience; Locks and access fob experience; Blood born pathogen experience or training; Tile repair or instantiation experience; Professional painting experience; Rodent and Pest control experience; Playground safety inspection experience; Splash pad and pool CPO training; Sports court repairs and maintenance; HVAC maintenance experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: A valid Oregon drivers license and must have the ability to obtain a Class B Oregon drivers license.
